Deep Research Prompt Samples
I want to understand the company Raycast on a deeper level and evaluate the next moves they need to make in terms of product, hiring and fundraising. In particular, I'm interested in exploring the future of what they should build and how it extends beyond the initial use case of replacing Spotlight and Alfred. I want to answer questions like how their developer community approach play into the larger vision of what they want to build. I also want to analyze their long-term monetization strategy (freemium with what seems like an underutilized business offering) against similar community/marketplace go-to-market motions pursued by highly successful businesses.
Analyze both the one to two-year timeline as well as the longer horizon at three to five years. And in terms of comparing to other companies, the ones that you listed like GitHub aren't exactly in the right place because even though they are somewhat heavily community-driven, it doesn't follow the exact model. I think about companies like Zapier, for instance, where you can publish your work for others to see so you can publish Zaps. I also think about companies like DBT where there's a giant community of open source DBT models that people share and use. So along those lines, more where the community is generating assets that are used by other people in the community. And that is interesting from a monetization standpoint because it achieves significant distribution, but also presents challenges in terms of monetizing, especially at scale because a significant amount of distribution is required. I would like to analyze both the financials and fundraising as well as the operational aspects like hiring, go-to-market challenges, et cetera, and the key roles that will be needed in each of those areas.
In terms of competitor comparisons, I don't think that the ones that you recommended, like GitHub, are exactly right, because even though those are community-driven, they aren't necessarily a great comparison as compared with tools, say, like DBT or Zapier. DBT and Zapier are communities in which people create an actual asset and share it within a community context where other people can use it, which I think is much more similar to Raycast, where they have a large community of people building extensions, and those people can share and use those extensions in the context of a store or a marketplace. You can achieve significant distribution through that model, but it's also hard to monetize, especially at scale, because people can generate free extensions. What were the other questions I needed to clarify?
That wasn't as deep of an analysis as I was expecting, but perhaps that's because I didn't have deep research toggled on. The big question I'm trying to answer is what their future growth and exit path look like. At hundreds of thousands of users and a 30 person team, it's feasible that they are cash flow positive. According to standard conversion rates for freemium consumer products, I estimate they could be generating $15-20 million in annual revenue. With the move to iOS and windows, they dramatically increase their TAM, but what does that mean for the product? Who would acquire them? Does an acquisition make sense, or could they be a generational company?
